Banksia menziesii – Firewood Banksia

A large shrub with stunning deep pink flower spikes with silver tips that open to reveal yellow pollen presenters, contrasting with long blue-green, shiny serrated leaves and highly ornamental woody fruit. A wonderful feature plant that flowers over many months from late summer to spring. Attracts birds and perfect for cut flowers. It tolerates drought and grows from 2 - 4m tall and 3 - 4m wide on well drained sand, sandy loam, loam, sandy gravel and gravelly loam. Mulch well and prune lightly after flowering, and use only low phosphate native fertiliser. Origin - Swan Coastal Plain and northern wheatbelt.
