A large shrub or fast-growing tree with serrated leaves and yellow or reddish candlestick flower heads. This plant grows as a shrub in hard conditions around granite outcrops and in drier gravelly loamy, or as a majestic tree to 25m tall along moist freshwater riverbanks in higher rainfall areas. It provides lovely shade and attracts many birds. It grows in sandy loam, loam, peaty sand or gravelly loam. Origin – riverbanks and creeklines in jarrah and karri forests, and around granite outcrops and south-west coastal headlands.
